About

Welcome to my Lego blog, I hope it diverts.

I’m looking to create a bit of that old web nostalgia where people made websites for their hobbies and filled them with poor quality photos and broken links to further content 🙂

From a time before emojis even 🤯

What does X mean?

  • alt An alternative model of an official kit using only what you get in the box
  • MoC My own Creation. A model using any of the parts from your (or your kids 😛 ) collections
  • dark ages A gap, typically between child and adulthood, when you didn’t make your own models.

Hi, I’m dougalf. I have more than my fair share of Lego. It’s been with me all my life.

In early 2025 I was blessed was a period of fierce joy. Over the holidays I’d been working on my Wipeout racer and it was really coming together. My brain was fizzing. I’d forgotten what a wonderful thing creativity is. I was so busy with it that I was getting back ache so I became literally mindful of my posture which brought peace too.

I was raving about it to anyone who’d listen. A good friend asked about my motivation. I was building something amazing for myself, solving the puzzle of finding the right pieces with the right connections to make that cool thing was the main thing. The moment when, after an evening of fiddling, it finally clicks together and you go yes, that’s it, it’s fabulous.

But of course, it’s also nice to share what you’ve made and to have a record for yourself to look back on. And so this blog was born.

That said, best of all would be inspiring even one person to make something, in whatever medium, to really get into it and have them feel the same.
