So when I found it in an airport shops while looking for holiday entertainment for the kids I was delighted. Cheap enough to be an impulse buy.

And it is indeed a very nice set. I used to get awesome overload from the things people make. Sure you can build some amazing stuff if you have a big budget and can send away for 300 obscure pieces but it felt like cheating somehow, not in the spirit of Lego. This set was just right for constraining you to a limited number of pieces but giving you enough complimentary bits that you can do something fun with them.

I had a couple of happy Algarve evenings making what started out as a tank but happily mutated into the more peaceful geographic core driller.

I’m still chuffed with my Honey Bee, the first original model I’d come up with in 10 years. It’s got playability and looks. Features include:

swivel- and tilt-able drilling rig

pair of easy access drill extenders for when you just need to get that little bit deeper

3 dark gray engine bits

4 blue spotlights because sometimes you are so busy drilling you don’t notice how dark it’s got and how far you’ve wandered from home.

independent obtuse triangle treads

small cockpit for that big scale look

The only difficulty I’ve had is making use of the smooth grey plates. In theory now it’s documented I could start another model, perhaps some kind of giant treaded dumper truck. But it’s a great alt models as it is.

I’m sure Gimp and my photo editting skillz have both improved since then though.

[6

post-60","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-alt
["GET
